Thanks to everyone who made it to our Hemlock show. We got some really good pictures from that night so be on the look out for those to be posted soon. You will only see the good ones though because let me tell you....there are some pretty embarrassing ones of myself. The faces I make while singing and playing are down right hysterical! WE have an out of town show coming up then we hit the studio. I can not tell you how excited I am to get recording. I'm sick of going on myspace and having Slowly and Beautiful Mess be the only thing for you to listen to. I love the songs but we wrote them like 3 or 4 years ago! It's time for the new stuff already! I can't wait!!
On a side note i was able to watch some cable last week and got sucked into VH1 classic where they devoted an entire hour to Poison. Apparently they are going on tour and coming out with a greatest hits cd. I,of course, watched the entire hour and every single video. I loved them when I was little and loved Bobby Doll because he was the only one with dark hair and I thought he was so cute. Anyways, their videos are SO funny! They all take place on stage and start with them jumping off some ledge where the drums are. Then they do somersaults and kicks and there is pyrotechnics and close ups of them doing "sexy"' faces. Literally every video is the same except every rose has it's thorn. Oh, and there are S L O W motion parts too...those are by far the funniest. Man, I love the 80's.

5 Questions for Jen Black, by Aja Blue

1. Aja - What are you listening to these days?

Jen - Hmmm, let's see here....I've been listening to a ton of the Beatles--not so much their early stuff but from Rubber Soul and later. The Carpenters Singles album. The new Keane record is great, and I'm really excited about the Silversun Pickups album, "Carnavas".

2. Aja -What is your favorite song to play live?

Jen - Right now I think it's probably "Hold Me Down". The whole band has alot of energy in that one....however, the new one that we don't really have a title for yet is a very close second and might take the lead once it's tightened up.

3. Aja - What's your most embarrassing fashion mistake or era ? (what about me?
don't be too cruel)

Jen - Oh God. You met me during one of them! Probably the era when I wore 4 inch platform, killer KISS combat boot things. I should look for a photo and post it. In addition to the boots, I also had short black hair, kinda like a Beatles mop top, only with these weird sideburn-wing things. I also wore blue and pink eyeshadow almost up to my eyebrows alot. I guess you could call it a glam period. I don't know.....

Hmmm.....As for you.....all I can think of is the time you cut your hair (with my help) and bleached the tip like a boy band member. However, in your defense, I think you knew it was a mistake right away. I, on the other hand, kept the boots for a long time. *sighs*

4. Aja - How has your song writing changed since the first record? Did moving 2000 miles have anything to do with it or do you think it just happened with
time?

Jen - I'd like to think that my songwriting has matured since "Last Summer". It's much different in that we write more now as a full band, with you and I on electric guitars from the get go--rather than starting with the two of us alone with acoustics. I think you and I work a bit more independently and present songs to each other with more of a foundation, whereas on the first album we pretty much wrote all the songs together from the ground up. I like where we've gone with our sound though and I'm anxious to record this full length.

I think for for the most part, the change/growth in my songwriting was an evolution that just happened with time. I will say, however, that personally the move caused me to grow up alot, and the topics and emotions of these new songs definitely reflect that. Being so far from family comfort and my true roots can be very scary, frustrating, or just plain sad; at the same time, it can be totally exciting and empowering feeling. I'm sure all that and more comes out in our new material.

5. Aja - What's the best and worst thing about living in San Francisco?

Jen - The best thing is the people and the weather. And the worst thing is the people and the weather.
